Abstract

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate refractive changes and stability during refraction after spectacles and contact lens removal.
Methods : Objective and subjective refraction, and corneal radius were measured in 30 subjects (total 60 eyes) with glasses and 91 subjects (total 182 eyes) with contact lenses at 0, 30, and 60 min after glasses or lens removal, and also at 90 min for lens removal.
Results : The results showed that objective refraction, subjective refraction and corneal radius were not significantly changed in subjects wearing glasses, otherwise there are significant differences in subjects wearing contact lenses at time intervals until 60 min, and these values appeared to be stabilized after 60 min.
Conclusion : This study suggests that refraction might be examined at least 60 min after removal of lenses in order to correct refraction for contact lens replacement or spectacle prescription.
